In 2017 the first ROC Dawlish meeting took place. Over 140 local residents came together to talk about ways to strengthen and support our community.
A key issue that came up in conversation was the fact that many people still didn't really know what was happening locally. This included where people could connect with others, where they could get help, or even give help through volunteering.
So ROC Dawlish has partnered with aDoddle.org, a Dawlish based UK wide initative, to map the amazing charities, community groups and opportunities that exist on our doorstep.
Did you know that Dawlish is the fourth most deprived town in Devon? With seasonal work, low wages, poor achievement and the highest percentage of people aged over 85 years.
ROC UK (Redeeming Our Communities; roc.uk.com) bringing together community groups, churches, the police, the fire service, local authorities and voluntary agencies and encourages them to work together by creating positive partnerships for practical ‘on the ground’ change.
Dawlish Against Plastic is planning a big event in the Summer - Dawlish's first ever 'Go Green Fest'. It will be a fun-packed day for all ages, celebrating sustainable living.
We plan to have speakers, entertainment, activities and stalls from eco-friendly businesses and organisations; it will be interactive, informative and inspirational!
When? Sunday, 26th July, from 10:00 - 16:00
Where? The Lawn, Dawlish
With support from the National Lottery Community Fund, #CelebrateNationalLottery25, aDoddle.org and ROC Dawlish are planning to build on the success of last years successful Refreshers fair.
This year the aim is to bring together local charities, community groups and organisations who have a 'green' profile on the Dawlish Community Map.
We will update information here as soon as dates, location and times are confirmed. In the meantime if you are a local organisation and not already on the map - please add your details today. You can tell the story of who you help, how you help, the difference you make and the help you need.
